The Gift of Outstanding Medical Care

This is also some old news, but definitely fit to print...A few weeks ago my dad went into the hospital to have a stent placed in one of the main arteries to his heart. Everything went incredibly smooth and he was astounded at how he could feel a difference (for the better) within hours post-operation. Hallelujah! He said his care during and after the procedure was some of the best he had ever received.

Well, ever since Sophie was born or really ever since Michaela went to the ER for an asthma episode back in October or really ever since my Mom introduced M to the 1950's Golden Book classics of Nurse Nancy and Doctor Dan the Bandage Man, Michaela has loved playing nurse and doctor. Everyone under our roof, including Bayleigh and a variety of stuffed animals and dolls, has had examinations, stethascope checks, and BandAids applied by our resident 2.5 year old professional. All this to say, when Grandpa landed in the hospital and was there overnight, we jumped at the opportunity to go and take care of him a bit ourselves. Nani made M this nurse hat and she packed her little roller bag with one BandAid and her real stethascope.

Ready to go and so proud! "Grandpa thinks he's seen good care at the hospital, but he ain't seen nothin' yet." (Not a direct quote, but close)

We arrived at Grandpa's room and there were no hugs or affectionate greetings: Michaela was all business. My dad played along like a star and treated the whole affair with a very serious manner. First the lone BandAid was removed from the kit...

Grandpa revealed the boo boo...

The nurse persevered and extracted the bandage all by herself...

Then applied it with pinpoint precision.

Next, she wrestled the stethascope into submission...

And approached the patient with all seriousness.

" Ah-wite, Gwappa, you're feeling soooo much betta!"

Mission accomplished.

To date, Grandpa has been home for two weeks and is feeling great. We are oh so thankful for his life, for those professionals who have saved his life, and for those grandaughters who bring such spunky joy. Oh, and one more quote from this occasion: Dad stood up in his fashionable hospital gowns to escort us to get an apple juice cocktail and M looked at him a bit questionably, but then promptly said with full acceptance, "Oh Gwappa, you look so pretty."
