Sea, Sound, Sand.

Time flies, yes and Time meanders. Both are good in their due courses, but when at the beach with loved ones I prefer the meandering and am now feeling grateful that I got to live at that pace for a few days recently. We were invited to join some dear friends at their home in the Outer Banks. A nice break from the bustle of VA Beach. These sweet Colbergs are the ones we lived with and worked with/for in Charlottesville. Helping with the care of their 4 boys. When we moved into the cottage, their youngest was 7. Michaela's age now. That's the time flying part. And now their youngest is heading into his junior year of high school while all the others are out of the house in university or working. Amazing. Three of the four boys joined us and it was such fun to: play and sit, talk and talk, swim and ride waves, eat and drink, sleep, read, and wake to the sounds of the sea. So grateful for such a gift. Here are some photos from the time.

Sunset over the Sound

Tee Hee. Our photographer got a little silly.

This kid was 7...not too long ago, it seems. These girls love. him. Always have.

Oh, Anne. I love having friends just a bit further along the road of life. Vital.

This photo makes me swoon. Farewell day.

This was second breakfast scene. How very hobbit-y.

These boys make us whisper and titter.

Best decks in the OBX. Look at those swooping lines of a handrail! And we bought a kite.

LOVE.

And I watched a sunrise on Sunday morning for the first time in a long time. The mellow and fiery orb emerged out of the Atlantic horizon baptizing the world and me in it. I'd never thought of a baptism with regards to a sunrise before but that was the word imagery that welled up upon my mind. Golden rays beading and pouring in widening rivulets upon a sky completely open to reception. Open to the washing of the dawn. It seemed to fit and be timely for me with coffee in hand and dew from the dune grass cool and fresh upon my feet. Timely as I contemplated leaving and heading back into "normal" life later that day. It was a wonderful send off from a time set apart. Again, thoroughly. grateful.
