Catching Up: August 2010

August came upon us right after we returned from New England. After the week or so "readjustment period" we settled back into the routine of suburban summer. One of the notable areas of growth that I've seen in Michaela this summer has been in HELPFULNESS! She is so capable...amazing really. Here are a few things she can help with...

Rolling out pizza dough...

Clothing is optional when you don't have AC in your kitchen and your pizza stone has to heat in a 425degree oven!

M has also been very helpful with Sophie...for entertainment in particular, but there is the occasional feeding session that she jumps in on as well.

If YOU ever need help putting on your cap, please call.

We have a high satisfactory rating!!!

And M also enjoys encouraging folks that come by for Sunday lunch and then take a nap in the backyard (like our good friend, Jeremy). I'm very grateful for this serving heart.

Later in the month, Andrew and I had the great privelege of attending a sweet wedding in Maryland. This "boy" is one of the first of "our" youth group kids to get married. We've known him since he was in 8th grade!?! That is crazy. He and his beautiful bride were stunning. What a JOY!

Andrew with another one of our "boys."
 And another!
These two young ladies are sisters of the groom and have grown up so much!!! Gorgeous.

Here are the same girls lovin' on Michaela (age 1) back in Charlottesville.
I'm going to just say it...I feel old!
It was such fun to reconnect with dear friends amidst this celebration! Hooray!

And for our final August installment...our prima ballerina.
Michaela, like most girls her age thoroughly enjoys dancing. She's been a dedicated fan of the original Angelina Ballerina books and really seems to enjoy flitting and twirling about with skirts and scarves and all things flowy.

Exhibit A.
Sooo, come the final week of August, M began a "real" ballet class. Wonderfully, we found a close and fiscally prudent option. Very family friendly and just perfect for a sensitive, not incredibly courageous 3 year old. These 30 minute sessions each week were a huge highlight!

Here's M on the very first day...heading off to class and not wanting to pose.
The final class in the six week session is open to parents...here are a few shots. Andrew and I were so proud and are beginning to understand the magic that happens when you watch this child that you birthed actually PERFORM. Wild.

Her class was technically for 2 and 3 year olds...I do think she was the oldest by a few months...

but she was the tallest by a full head!

AND for the very first time, I'm posting a video on my blog!
This is a little ditty of highlights that my very video savvy husband strung together. Click the PLAY arrow to enjoy!
