Catching Up: July 2010

July arrived with joy. The heart of summer. Blazing heat, sundresses, bare toes, diaper-only nights, daily morning walks, glistening skin the day through and of course, THE 4th! We didn't do much to celebrate, but we did make it to a local parade and all the girls (me included) sported red and white...and the stoller accounted for our blue quota. We went with some friends and enjoyed every moment except the Daughters of the Revolution rifle display...lots of screaming, lots of explaining, my girlies have sensitive ears for certain. Whew. Anyway, here are a few photos from the day.

Sophie willingly gave up the seat next to her to her buddy, Barnes. He loved her fashionable hat...
She loved the attention!
Focused observation.
One of our favorites!
Thanks to the story of Wee Gillis, Michaela has quite an appreciation for bagpipes and loved this band. She diligently waved her flag at EVERYthing that went by...except the rifles.
I made this one a little bigger in hopes of reading the writing on the bagpipe...Cameron Highlanders Pipe Band! Hey! They're family!
M with her sweet friend, Reece. Hooray for hairbows!

In mid-July, when the hydrangea was in full bloom...
we ventured off to the cooler, crisper, New England summer weather in Massachusetts and Vermont. We had a lovely time in MA attending the wedding of a good friend, spending a variety of quality times with cousins, going to the beach, picnicking, lounging and adventuring with Mimi and Papa, going to the beach, eating ice-cream, eating lobster, and going to the beach. We love the North Shore of MA!! Oh and the weather was gorgeous!! A treat.

Bass Rocks, Gloucester, MA
Cutie, Party of One. Cutie, Party of One.
A Woodman's picnic: Essex, MA.
Sweet cousin time...Evan "reading" to M.
M with Abigail.
Crazy, sandy, so happy together: Julia and M.
Our beach-wear...gotta protect this fair child of mine!
REJOICE!
Three giddy girls. LORD, thank you for the sea.

After about a week of galavanting around in MA, we "ran" up to Sky Farm in Vermont for different kinds of fun!
M crested this hill and just kept going. I love this shot!
Nani and Grandpa joined us for a couple days.
And we enjoyed classic summer fun at the pond. The same pond, mind you, that I grew up swimming and jumping and tubing and catching salamanders in. VERY sweet to have my own children enjoying the same beauty. Cast of characters up close: My dad leaping off the raft, my mom with Michaela and swimmy noodles and me with Sophie in a tube tire. JOY.
Grandpa taking M for a twirl around the pond.
Nani taking M for another  twirl around the pond...guess who loved the rowboat?!?
Mmmm. Black eyed susan in full-bloom
So, after a delightful few days in VT we had the great privilege of returning to MA for Andrew's brother's wedding. HOORAY for a new Ray sister!!! We so enjoyed ourselves and feel very blessed by all the handiwork of Christ that went into this day. Grateful. Here are a few highlights...

The new completed Ray family...with beautiful bride and groom at center.
M was an enchanted flowergirl who took her job so seriously that at the end of the aisle she had flower petals left over and thus just turned the basket over and dumped! Flower girls are meant to drop ALL their flowers, of course.
Cute Cousins.
Bride and Groom with all their nieces and nephews!
Thank goodness for big boy cousins to dance with!
The best we could do!

A beautiful July!
